Sci-fi greatness in the making: Hollywood Spotlight
Dune
Dune directed by Denis Villeneuve starring a stellar cast, Timothy Chalamet, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Mamoa, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, and many more.
This adaptation of Frank Herbert's science fiction novel of the same name follows the story of Paul Atreides, the son of a noble family. He leads nomadic tribes in a battle to control the desert planet Arrakis, the only planet in the known universe containing the life-extending spice melange. This adaptation of Frank Herbert's legendary science fiction novel is set for release on December 18th, 2020. I'm beyond excited for this film to come to life in true form with a trusted cast and production team behind it. Dune is an epic, spanning millennia across the various worlds that humanity of the future has colonized. What makes Dune interesting isn't just the high concept setting but the ideas that center around how leadership, religion, and politics will only become more dangerous as we expand to the star and how it will have tremendous effects on the future of mankind.
Raised by Wolves
Raised by Wolves centers around two androids, mother and father who are tasked with raising human children on Kepler-22b in the wake of a religious war that destroyed Earth. As the colony threatens to be torn apart by their fundamental differences, the androids soon learn that controlling the beliefs of humans is a treacherous task.
Written and directed by the sci-fi icon Ridley Scott, most known for his work on the Alien franchise, Blade Runner, and Gladiator it feels like "Raised by Wolves" was the natural step into the right direction. This series is shaping up to explore some heady concepts around the nature of humanity, the role of religion in society, and how artificial intelligence may develop it's own will, leaving devastating effects on humanity. Raised by Wolves stars Amanda Collin, Abubakar Salim, Winta McGarth, and Travis Fimmel.
Foundation
Foundation picks up during the waning days of a Galactic Empire. The mathematician, Hari Seldon develops a theory of psychohistory, a new and effective mathematical sociology, a science that can predict the future of large populations. Seldon foresees the imminent fall of the Empire, which encompasses the entire Milky Way.
Seldon creates the Foundations—two groups of scientists and engineers settled at opposite ends of the galaxy—to preserve the spirit of science and civilization, and thus become the cornerstones of the new galactic empire.
Foundation is based on the penultimate science fiction saga of the same name written by one of the forefathers of science fiction writing, Isaac Asimov, winner of the Hugo award for "Best All-Time Series". Foundation is directed by Jennifer Phang & Ruper Sanders starring Jared Harris, Lee Pace, Lauren Birn, Leah Harvey, Lou Llobell, and many more (full cast on IMDB) is set to release on Apple TV. Although production has since been postponed due to the COVID19 pandemic, we are excited and look forward to seeing another one of the all-time greatest series in science fiction adapted to the Big screen.
