Pinterest making a comeback: TECH TUESDAY

As one of the most popular social media platforms in the world, Pinterest currently has 478 million monthly active users (Pinterest, 2021). It is currently ranked as the 14th most popular social media platform in the world. Pinterest is a unique platform with an equally unique business model that differentiates it from other photo-sharing websites. Rather than having users share photos directly with friends, users instead curate personal pinboards of existing photos uploaded by friends, strangers, and even companies.
At the beginning of 2021, 478 million people were using the platform for inspiration on what to wear, what to cook, ways to style their homes, and so much more. Pinterest's user base is declining, which investors don't like. The company's monetization is increasing but growth has slowed dramatically from 2021. With a new CEO in place, it's trying to become a more important e-commerce player, which has been met with skepticism from the market.
Pinterest is making a major comeback with Gen Z. However, how and what the app is used for in the present day is definitely different from the way it was in 2012. Some may try and compare it to the immensely popular Instagram platform. However, there are vital differences. Instagram is currently the only platform that doesn't allow you to share links in posts. You can post a link in your profile bio, and you can add links to Instagram Ads (including Story Ads) that you run. When you're looking to distribute content, Pinterest is the best choice. Global Monthly Active Users (MAUs) grew 30% year over year to 478 million.
Who does Pinterest attract? You may be surprised. 14.5% of Pinterest users are male. 32% of Pinterest users are 18-29 years old. 34% of Pinterest users are 30-49 years old. 38% of Pinterest users are between the ages of 50 and 64, representing the largest age demographic on the platform. Although the platform is historically popular among Millennials, the demographics of Pinterest are shifting. Unlike competing networks, there's less of a generational divide on Pinterest.
Pinterest is a social media platform that people often overlook. A Lot of bloggers are making more than 20K a month. Avalanche is a course and tailwind to schedule posts Pinterest will pay you directly if you're part of the Creator Rewards program and your content meets the goal requirements and eligibility criteria. Pinterest does not facilitate payment for other monetization programs like product tagging, affiliate links or brand partnerships.
It's really more of a search engine than a social media channel. People may search for a topic. EWhen you click a pin, you go to that website. Facebook and twitter gives more updates - which is very different. Fashion appears to have a choke hold on the Pinterest community more than any other segment. However there seems to be plenty of room for other segments.
Experts say that Pinterest is basically a search engine that gives you results as images. Some say it classifies as a dumb google but not as powerful. Additionally, pins on Pinterest have a longer lifespan than any other social media channel. If it gets shared, then people can see it on several boards as people share it. This is true even after years. If the pin is visually appealing then the blog can spread quickly. It resembles a portfolio of content.
Users also say that there are plenty of viral opportunities on Pinterest. When a follower shares your pin, it gets lots of opportunities to get notices and go viral. In the area of content, users swear by Pinterest saying that Pinterest values high quality content. If you have strong graphic design, then you have a better chance. You don’t have to worry about “poor quality” driving down your content.
The attraction is more organic on Pinterest because the search engine nature of the platform means that people are searching for your content, so if they hit your pin, they were looking for it. That also means they are likely to be more interested in your content.
What about the audience? In general, Pinterest users on average are wealthier than other platforms. The ads perform better.
Since Pinterest is a "visual discovery tool" that was originally created for people to share ideas and inspiration for various interests and projects, the relization of whag it does best is begginning to gain audiences. Only the future will determine how formidable it will bein the coming years.
